Brighter Media was founded by Emily Spencer, a veteran of the online industry, who has been building websites and businesses since 1997. After setting up the business and travel channels at LineOne (now Tiscali), she founded her own travel site, Whatsonwhen.com, where she raised venture capital investment. She ran the company for almost five years, taking it from start-up and steering it through the dot com crash, to create a profitable, multi-million pound, business.

During her CEO-ship, the site won the prestigious Yell.Com award for Best Travel Site, as well as being featured in numerous Top Ten and Top 100 site awards in the national press.
